How a Name works

Ten to fifteen minutes together, one Name at a time. Some activities need a few days (a seed, a plant), so you can set them up and come back.

The four steps of every Name

  1. Inspire · Wonder, then meet the Name. One wonder question about a sign in creation. Then the Name, its Arabic from the ayah, and its meaning. You say it; your child says it back.
  2. Investigate · Look closer. A safe home activity at your child's level: guess first, try it, then say what you noticed. One fact, with its source.
  3. Integrate · Connect. The ayah where the Name appears, with the Name lit up. Then one question linking the sign to the Name. Every answer is a good one.
  4. Impart · Shine or share. A small manner to practise this week, or a way to answer the Name: thanks, a du'a, or telling someone at home about the sign.

Signs, never proof

The science here is a sign to wonder at: it helps your child notice Allah's work in what He made. It never proves the Quran, and it never pictures Allah. Every lesson has one line to say together: “Allah made this. Allah is not like anything He made.”

Two levels

Explorer (often 4 to 7) looks, counts and says. Investigator (often 7 to 11) predicts, tests and measures. Choose by what your child can do, not by age. A family with mixed ages can do one of each. Change it in the gear (⚙).

About the 99 Names

The Names and their order follow the list in Jami' at-Tirmidhi (no. 3507). The first Names here are the ones whose meanings our team has already checked; the rest are added once our asatizah have checked them.

Staying safe

Every activity uses things from home and says what to watch for. Small things such as beans and rice are a choking risk for children under 3. A grown-up handles knives, glass and anything hot.
